Mail truck fire extinguished by Lower Valley Fire District

FRUITA, Colo. (KREX) — The Lower Valley Fire District was dispatched to the scene of a USPS mail truck on fire Friday afternoon.
The postal worker was not injured. It was reported that the mail truck was empty and returning to the LaSalle Station when the fire broke out.
RCA was able to deliver about a quarter of the route. Everything else burned and no letter given to customers to inform them their mail and packages were destroyed.
The first deputy on site identified the mail truck driver as injured and at risk from the fire, then pulled the driver away from the burning vehicle.
The fire was brought under control without any reported injuries, the department said.
